Science behind EFT Tapping
The limbic system is responsible for emotional, emotional and long term memory, including negative memory storage.
The Amygdala is the part that signals the rest of the limbic system when there is something wrong. Unfortunately when someone has a negative experience that frequency gets stored in long-term memory.
Whenever a similar situation arises or even the expectation of a similar experience occurs, the Amygdala raises the alarm--even if there is nothing actually wrong. Tapping works by halting the fight or flight response in the Amygdala.
Research
Teams at both Harvard Medical School and Johns Hopkins show that by stimulating meridian acupoints (tapping on them) actually halts the Amygdala's call to arms.
A double blind study on cortisol, a stress hormone, showed an average reduction of 24% after acupoint stimulation. By comparison, talk therapy and no intervention showed no reduction in cortisol. Additionally, cortisol is one of the hormones responsible for weight retention.
Tapping is physically tapping on the acupoints.
